In vehicles not designed exclusively for the transport of goods (such as passenger cars), regulations state that the load may only overhang from the rear (never from the front or sides). The limits are:  Up to 10% of the vehicle's length if the load is divisible.  Up to 15% of the vehicle's length if the load is indivisible (cannot be broken down, like a surfboard). It is important to remember that this overhanging load must be marked with the V-20 signal (a square panel with red and white diagonal stripes).
