If your vehicle is stopped as the last one in a queue, what precaution should you take to avoid a rear-end collision?

Question

DentroTest · Accepted Answer

As the driver of the last vehicle in a stop (traffic jam, traffic light, etc.), you must drive defensively to avoid rear-end collisions. Standard safety rules state that you must constantly watch your rear-view mirrors for approaching vehicles. Additionally, you should maintain a sufficient safety distance from the car in front (2 or 3 meters) to avoid the 'sandwich effect' if hit and to have room to maneuver or move aside if you realize the vehicle behind is not going to stop in time. Reducing the distance or releasing the brake would increase the risk.
