The correct answer is as close as possible to the right edge. According to traffic regulations, animals should preferably use designated livestock trails. When these do not exist, they must use the right shoulder. If there is no shoulder or it is insufficient, they must use the part of the roadway closest to the right edge.  Important Note: Unlike pedestrians, who walk on the left outside built-up areas to see oncoming traffic, animals must always move in the direction of traffic (on the right) to avoid unpredictable reactions when facing oncoming vehicles.
