What is the primary function of the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) during emergency braking?

Question

DentroTest · Accepted Answer

The correct answer is to prevent the wheels from locking during braking, maintaining steering control. Detailed explanation: The ABS is a fundamental active safety system. When you brake hard or in an emergency, there is a risk that the wheels will stop rotating (lock up) and the vehicle will start to skid. If the wheels lock, the tires lose grip and the ability to steer the vehicle, meaning that even if you turn the steering wheel, the car will continue in a straight line due to inertia. ABS releases and applies brake pressure intermittently (many times per second) to ensure the wheels keep turning. This allows the driver to steer around an obstacle without releasing the brake pedal. Analysis of incorrect options: Reduce wear: ABS does not operate during normal driving, only in emergencies, so it does not influence daily tire wear. Only on dry roads: ABS is effective on all types of surfaces and is especially vital on wet or slippery roads to prevent skidding.
