On which type of road is it mandatory to leave sufficient frontal distance so that the vehicle following you can overtake you safely?

Question

DentroTest · Accepted Answer

Regulations state that when driving behind another vehicle without the intention of overtaking, you must leave a distance that allows the vehicle following you to overtake and return to the right lane safely. This obligation applies specifically to conventional roads with one lane in each direction. The reason is that on these roads, overtaking involves entering the opposite lane, so it is vital to leave a gap so that the overtaker can abort the maneuver or finish it quickly by tucking back in. On motorways or dual carriageways, since there are multiple lanes in the same direction, it is not necessary to leave this specific space to facilitate re-entry after overtaking, although basic safety distance to avoid collisions must always be maintained.
