What fundamental premise must you fulfill when driving in rainy conditions?

Question

DentroTest · Accepted Answer

The correct answer is 'You must see well and be seen'. In rain, visibility drastically decreases through windows and mirrors, so it is vital to activate windshield wipers and turn on lights (usually low beams) to be perceived by other road users. Why are the other options incorrect? 'Must reduce speed and safety distance': While it is correct to reduce speed, the safety distance must be INCREASED (usually doubled), never reduced, due to lower tire grip. 'Without taking any special precautions if the first drops fall': False. The first drops are the most dangerous because they mix water with dust and oil on the asphalt, creating a very slippery sludge.
