If you observe a child near the roadway, how should you act to ensure safety?

Question

DentroTest · Accepted Answer

The correct answer is to reduce speed or stop if necessary. Children belong to the group of vulnerable road users. Their behavior is often unpredictable; they might let go of an adult's hand, play, or run after a ball without perceiving the danger. Additionally, their short stature makes it difficult for other drivers to see them. Therefore, general defensive driving rules require moderating speed to have sufficient reaction time and to stop the vehicle completely in the face of an unexpected intrusion. Passing quickly or maintaining speed exponentially increases the risk of a serious accident.
