Traffic regulations (Road Safety Law) allow the competent Administration to order the transfer of a vehicle to an Authorized Vehicle Treatment Center (scrapyard) for destruction when it is considered solid urban waste. Generally, this happens after prolonged periods of abandonment (such as 2 months in the impound lot after removal). Once the Administration notifies the holder that the vehicle is to be treated as waste, the holder has a strict period of 15 days to remove it, upon payment of the costs incurred (towing and storage), before its final destruction is carried out.
