What is the main purpose of rearview mirrors in a vehicle?

Question

DentroTest · Accepted Answer

The function of rearview mirrors is to allow the driver to observe traffic behind and to the sides of the vehicle clearly and quickly, without the need to turn their head. They are essential active safety elements for reducing blind spots and are indispensable for applying the safety rule MSM (Mirror Signal Maneuver) before any movement. The answer mentioning aerodynamics is incorrect, as mirrors usually increase air resistance, and the one limiting vision only to the rear is incomplete, as they also cover the sides.
