What is the primary purpose of the clutch system in a vehicle?

Question

DentroTest · Accepted Answer

The clutch is a fundamental mechanical component located between the engine and the gearbox. Its main mission is to transmit or interrupt the rotational movement from the engine to the transmission system (and therefore to the wheels). When pressing the pedal (disengaging): The connection is interrupted, allowing gear changes or stopping the vehicle without stalling the engine. When releasing the pedal (engaging): The clutch disc connects to the flywheel, transmitting the engine's power to the gearbox. The other answers are incorrect because the clutch has no climate control functions (cooling), and while it interacts with the crankshaft, its technical definition is not to 'release its rotation', but to manage the transmission of its energy.
