Are persons moving in motorized wheelchairs legally considered pedestrians?

Question

DentroTest · Accepted Answer

Yes, the answer is affirmative. According to the General Traffic Regulations, persons moving in wheelchairs are considered pedestrians, regardless of whether the wheelchair is manual or motorized. Even if they have mechanical propulsion, they are not classified as drivers. Therefore: They must circulate on sidewalks or pedestrian zones (at walking pace). Only if there is no pedestrian zone may they use the shoulder or the roadway, but they still retain their legal status as pedestrians. The other answers are incorrect because the possibility of using the roadway or speed limits does not strip them of their pedestrian status.
