Can a reinforced body replace the effectiveness of other passive safety systems, such as seatbelts or airbags?

Question

DentroTest · Accepted Answer

No. Passive safety is an integral system where each element performs a specific function that cannot be replaced by another. Although modern bodywork (with its rigid safety cell and crumple zones) is vital for absorbing impact energy and maintaining survival space, it cannot by itself prevent occupant movement inside the vehicle. Without retention elements like seatbelts and airbags, occupants would collide violently against the vehicle's rigid parts or be ejected, suffering serious or fatal injuries. Therefore, the bodywork and retention systems are complementary and mandatory.
