What requirements must a wheel rim meet to ensure safety while driving?

Question

DentroTest · Accepted Answer

The rim is the metal element on which the tire is mounted and is fundamental to the vehicle's active safety. The correct answer is that it must have smooth edges and be free of damage, cracks, or deformations. To understand why the other options are incorrect: Cracks or Deformations: Even if they appear slight or allow the wheel to rotate, any deformation in the rim alters the wheel balance, causes steering vibrations, leads to irregular tire wear, and, most seriously, can cause sudden air loss or a blowout at high speeds. Edges (Flanges): If the edges are not smooth or are dented, they can cut the tire bead. Rust: While surface rust is common, deep rust weakens the metal structure and should not be ignored just because the tire holds air. Preventive maintenance requires periodically checking the physical condition of the rims, especially after hitting a curb or driving over a deep pothole.
