As a general rule, on which wheels does the parking brake system act?

Question

DentroTest · Accepted Answer

The parking brake (commonly called the handbrake) is a mechanical system designed to keep the vehicle stationary once parked. Unlike the service brake (pedal), which acts on all four wheels via hydraulic pressure, the parking brake acts, in the vast majority of passenger cars, exclusively on the rear wheels. This is usually achieved via cables that lock the rear discs or drums to prevent the car from rolling away, especially on slopes.
