At what exact moment must chains or anti-slip devices be installed on the wheels?

Question

DentroTest · Accepted Answer

The correct answer is 'When it is already snowy'. Chains should only be fitted when the road has a sufficient layer of snow or ice to prevent the metal from coming into direct contact with the asphalt. If fitted 'when it starts snowing' and the snow has not yet settled, the chains would destroy the pavement and severely damage the vehicle's tires and suspension, as well as dangerously increasing braking distance (metal on asphalt slides). Remember that their use is mandatory when indicated by sign R-412 and they must be removed as soon as the road is clear.
