Is the airbag effective on its own as the only protection system in a vehicle?

Question

DentroTest · Accepted Answer

The correct answer is NO. The airbag is a complementary passive safety system (SRS: Supplemental Restraint System) and never a substitute. Its design assumes that the occupant is restrained by the seatbelt. Why the seatbelt is necessary: In the event of a collision, the seatbelt slows the body down and keeps it in the correct position. The danger without a seatbelt: If the seatbelt is not worn, the body moves uncontrollably towards the steering wheel or dashboard while the airbag deploys at a speed of about 300 km/h. This direct impact against the exploding bag can cause very serious injuries or death. Conclusion: No official approval allows the use of an airbag without a seatbelt, and this rule applies to all seats, not just the driver's.
