How should the seat belt be positioned to ensure its effectiveness and prevent the submarine effect?

Question

DentroTest · Accepted Answer

The seat belt is the most important passive safety element in the vehicle. For it to protect correctly: Snug Fit: It must be completely tight against the body. If worn loose or with very bulky clothing, the body will travel a free distance before being restrained, increasing the severity of injuries. Strap Positioning: The lap strap must rest on the hip bones (pelvis), never on the stomach, to avoid damage to internal organs. The diagonal strap must pass over the collarbone and the center of the chest. Submarine Effect: A poorly adjusted belt or using towels/cushions on the seat can cause the body to slide under the lap belt in the event of an impact, causing very serious injuries to the back, pelvis, and lower limbs. Therefore, wearing it loose is dangerous and incorrect.
