Is it permitted to move injured persons after a traffic accident?

Question

DentroTest · Accepted Answer

As a general rule, injured people must not be moved, nor should you try to get them out of the vehicle. Incorrect handling can turn a recoverable injury into an irreversible one (such as paraplegia) if there is damage to the spine or neck. However, the correct answer qualifies this: 'No, unless it is absolutely necessary for their safety'. This is because there are life-threatening emergency exceptions where the risk of imminent death outweighs the risk of spinal cord injury. These cases are: Risk of fire or explosion of the vehicle. Risk of asphyxiation (airway obstruction). The need to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) when it is impossible to do so inside the vehicle. The injured person is on the roadway and there is an imminent danger of being run over again. In these cases, the victim must be moved as a rigid block (head-neck-trunk axis) to minimize damage.
