When assisting a traffic accident victim, what fundamental precaution must be maintained regarding their handling?

Question

DentroTest · Accepted Answer

The correct answer is to avoid moving the neck and the spine. In first aid protocol, it must always be assumed that a person injured in a traffic accident may have spinal cord injuries. Any sudden or incorrect movement of the head-neck-trunk axis could worsen a vertebral fracture and sever the spinal cord, causing irreversible damage such as paraplegia or tetraplegia. Regarding the incorrect options: The injured person must not be made to move in order to detect injuries: Voluntary movement can displace fractures or increase bleeding. Painkillers or medicines must not be given: This can mask symptoms that are vital for medical diagnosis, cause allergic reactions, or complicate anesthesia if urgent surgery were necessary.
