Can traffic accidents caused by sleep occur during daytime hours?

Question

DentroTest · Accepted Answer

The correct answer is yes, especially after eating. Sleep and drowsiness are not dangers exclusive to night driving. Our bodies follow biological rhythms (circadian rhythms) that cause natural drops in our level of alertness. The most dangerous peaks of sleepiness occur: In the early morning (between 03:00 and 05:00). In the early afternoon (between 14:00 and 16:00), a time that usually coincides with digestion. Therefore, driving after a heavy meal or on monotonous roads during the day can induce 'microsleep', causing serious accidents.
