What exactly does the figure appearing on a steep descent or ascent warning sign indicate?

Question

DentroTest · Accepted Answer

The number represents the gradient of the slope expressed as a percentage (signs P-16 and P-17). Mathematically, it indicates the vertical change in meters for every 100 meters traveled horizontally (for example, 8% means the road height changes by 8 meters every 100 meters). It is incorrect to think it is a speed limit because: Maximum speeds are indicated in circles with red borders. Minimum speeds are indicated in blue circles. Recommended speeds are indicated in blue squares. Although the driver must adjust their speed to the incline, the figure itself is strictly geometrical data regarding the road.
