What is the main function of the service brake (foot brake) in a vehicle?

Question

DentroTest · Accepted Answer

The correct answer is to reduce speed and stop the vehicle. The foot brake, technically known as the service brake, is the primary braking system that acts on all four wheels of the vehicle. Its mission is to allow the driver to progressively reduce speed or stop the vehicle safely, quickly, and effectively, regardless of the load or the slope. Analysis of other options: Preventing the car from moving when parked: This is the function of the parking brake (handbrake), which is usually mechanical and acts only on the rear wheels to immobilize the vehicle. Stopping the car when the handbrake fails: This is incorrect because the foot brake is the primary system, not a backup for the handbrake.
