When adjusting the driver's seat for a proper driving position, how should the upper back be supported?

Question

DentroTest · Accepted Answer

The correct answer is to support it completely without leaving a gap. Detailed explanation: Passive safety: The seatback should be as upright as possible. If there is a gap between the back (especially the shoulder blade area) and the seat, the risk of neck and spinal injuries increases drastically in a rear-end collision or sudden braking, since the body will hit the seat instead of being held by it. Vehicle control: Full contact of the back lets the driver feel the inertia and movements of the car, making a quick reaction easier. Why not leave a gap: The options of leaving 10 or 20 cm are dangerous because they imply a reclined posture. This moves the driver away from the controls, reduces visibility and promotes the 'submarine effect' (sliding under the seatbelt in an impact).
