For safe and effective driving, what is the correct arm posture when holding the steering wheel?

Question

DentroTest · Accepted Answer

Correct posture is essential for passive safety and vehicle control. You should sit with your back and shoulders firmly against the backrest. When extending your arms over the steering wheel, your wrists should rest on the top of the rim; this ensures that when holding the wheel at the 'ten to ten' or 'quarter to three' position, your arms remain slightly bent. This prevents severe elbow injuries in the event of an impact and allows for abrupt maneuvers with greater agility. Driving with fully extended arms or the body leaning forward reduces reaction capacity and increases fatigue.
