If you receive a mobile phone call while driving, what is the safest course of action?

Question

DentroTest · Accepted Answer

Using a mobile phone is one of the main causes of distraction at the wheel. The traffic regulations establish that it is strictly prohibited to drive while using mobile phone devices by hand. The only permitted exception is when the communication takes place without using the hands or using helmets, headphones or similar instruments (that is, an approved hands-free system). The correct answer is to use the hands-free device and tell the caller that you are driving. Detailed justification: Risk reduction: Although using hands-free is legal, the conversation itself causes a cognitive distraction (the brain focuses on the chat and not on the road). By telling the person you are talking to that you are driving, the pressure to answer quickly is reduced and the other person will avoid complex or stressful topics. Prohibitions: Placing the phone on your shoulder or answering without hands-free means letting go of the steering wheel and losing your field of vision, which is extremely dangerous and illegal. Remember: If the call is not urgent, it is always best not to answer and to stop in a safe place to return the call later.
