Is a motorcycle legally considered a motor vehicle (automobile)?

Question

DentroTest · Accepted Answer

Yes, the correct answer is that a motorcycle is a motor vehicle (automobile). To understand this, we must look at the definition in the General Vehicle Regulations: Automobile (Motor Vehicle): It is any power-driven vehicle used for the transport of persons, goods, or both. Special vehicles are excluded from this definition. Motorcycle: Since it has an engine larger than 50cc and/or a speed greater than 45 km/h, it fits perfectly into the definition of an automobile. Why is this distinction important? It is crucial to differentiate it from a moped (ciclomotor). Although mopeds have an engine, legally they are not considered 'motor vehicles' (automobiles), but fall into a lower category for regulatory purposes. Therefore, a motorcycle is an automobile, but a moped is not.
