As a general rule, pedestrians (including occupants who exit a vehicle) are forbidden from walking on motorways and dual carriageways. The only exception is in the event of an emergency or breakdown: occupants may walk only to reach the nearest SOS post if they have no other means of calling for help. In this case, they must do so without walking on the roadway, staying on the shoulder or off the road, and always wearing a reflective vest.
