How the truck exam works

The goods-vehicle theory exam is a specific 20-question test. You must already hold Permit B to sit it.

The theory test

20 specific questions, 20 minutes and a maximum of 2 mistakes. A blank answer counts as a fail.
You must hold Permit B. The common car test is not repeated if it is still valid.
C1 can be obtained at 18. C at 21, or earlier if you have the CAP and the driver qualification card.

After the theory test

Next come a closed-circuit manoeuvres test and an on-road circulation test.
Towing a trailer over 750 kg requires permit C1+E or C+E, with its own theory test.

Languages

Spanish, the co-official language of your region, English and French. For these permits the theory test does not include German or easy-read format.

Co-official languages are requested in their region: Catalan in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, Basque in the Basque Country and Navarre, Galician in Galicia and Valencian in the Valencian Community.

Before you sit the exam

Medical check

The psychophysical fitness report is valid for 90 days. It expires before the exam if you get it too early.

Fee

The DGT fee covers two sittings. If you fail both, you must submit a new application.

Validity

A passed test is kept for two years. If you do not get the licence in that time, you must sit it again.

Preparation

You can prepare independently or at a driving school. DentroTest practises the theory test: it does not file the application or teach on-road lessons.
