How the Permit B exam works

The car theory test is a common 30-question exam. DentroTest lets you practise that format; the official exam is run by the DGT.

The theory test

It is the common knowledge test: rules, signs, speed, right of way, road safety and first aid.
30 questions with three options. You have 30 minutes.
You pass with a maximum of 3 mistakes. A blank answer counts as a fail.
You can sit the first theory sitting from three months before you turn 18.

After the theory test

Next comes the practical driving test on open roads.
Each passed test is kept for two years. If you do not get the licence in that time, you must sit them again.

Languages

Spanish, the co-official language of your region, English, French and German. Easy-read format is also available.

Co-official languages are requested in their region: Catalan in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, Basque in the Basque Country and Navarre, Galician in Galicia and Valencian in the Valencian Community.

Before you sit the exam

Medical check

The psychophysical fitness report is valid for 90 days. It expires before the exam if you get it too early.

Fee

The DGT fee covers two sittings. If you fail both, you must submit a new application.

Validity

A passed test is kept for two years. If you do not get the licence in that time, you must sit it again.

Preparation

You can prepare independently or at a driving school. DentroTest practises the theory test: it does not file the application or teach on-road lessons.
