Are drivers obliged to submit to narcotic detection tests if requested by law enforcement officers?

Question

DentroTest · Accepted Answer

Yes, it is compulsory. According to the Traffic Law, all drivers of vehicles and bicycles are required to undergo alcohol and drug detection tests (narcotics, psychotropic substances, stimulants) when required to do so by officers. This obligation applies in four cases: 1) At preventive checkpoints, 2) After committing an offense, 3) If involved in an accident, or 4) If they show obvious symptoms. The answer 'Only in case of accident' is wrong because preventive checks are legal and frequent. The answer 'No, only alcohol' is false, since drugs also seriously impair the ability to drive and their control is just as strict. Refusing to undergo these tests may constitute a criminal offense.
