How to study the syllabus

  1. 1

    Read one topic a day

Topics are short and to the point. Start with the ones that come up most in the exam: speed, priority, manoeuvres and signs.

  2. 2

    Practise its questions

Each topic has tests with questions from that topic only, so you can check you understood it before moving on.

  3. 3

    Review your mistakes

With an account, the questions you get wrong come back in your review until you answer them correctly several times in a row.

  4. 4

    Finish with full exams

Once you have read the syllabus, take full tests with the same number of questions and allowed mistakes as the real exam.

What the theory exam covers

The Spanish DGT theory exam asks about traffic rules, signs, road safety, the driver’s condition, basic mechanics and first aid. Each permit adds its own subjects: the motorcycle permit covers riding on two wheels and protective gear, the truck permit the tachograph, loads and dimensions, and the bus permit passenger transport.

This syllabus follows the topic order of each permit and is written for the exam: the figures you get asked about (speeds, distances, alcohol limits, deadlines) stand out, and each topic explains the reason behind the rule, which is what helps you avoid trick questions.

Topics are reviewed against current Spanish traffic law, including the new 2025 official catalogue of traffic signs. If you are going for several permits, start with the car (B): the others assume its general rules and focus on what is specific to each vehicle.

Is it in English?
Topic names and tests are in English. Some permits still show the topic text in Spanish; they are marked on this page.
Is it updated for 2026?
Yes. Topics are reviewed against current Spanish traffic law and updated when a rule changes, such as the 2025 official catalogue of traffic signs.
Is reading the syllabus enough to pass?
Reading it helps you understand the questions, but you should practise too. Take each topic’s tests when you finish it and, at the end, full exams until you pass them comfortably.
